Mouse skills checklist

“Can do” markers for the five mouse skills. Printable.

This checklist is for checking at home how far your child can go with the five mouse skills. It is not for judging your child on can or can’t. It varies from day to day, so please use it as a “for now, up to here” marker. To print it, use your browser’s print function on this page.

How to use it

  • Don’t worry about the order. It is fine to look back, starting with whatever they are good at.
  • Look again after a few days. It is normal to manage it sometimes and not other times.
  • If something is hard, check the setup. Look at how they sit, the size of the mouse and the pointer speed. → How to teach a child to use a mouse
  • Practice through play. For an example you can try at five minutes a day, see “A 1-week mouse practice plan.”

FAQ

How much should my child be able to do before moving on to the next skill?

There is no set standard. If they are enjoying it, it is fine to move on. If it looks hard, go back to the earlier game and play it again, briefly.

Do all the boxes have to be checked?

No. The order and the pace are different for every child. Once they stop having trouble when using a computer, it is fine to take a break from practice.

At what age will they be able to do everything?

We do not give an age on this site. Look at your child and go at your family’s pace.
